If you have ever wondered what makes crinkle cookies crinkle, you are not alone. The crinkles on these cookies are created in the baking process—the cookie dough is first rolled in icing sugar and baking them creates this unique design. Although traditionally made during the holidays, these cookies make for a great treat year-round.
Be patient and let your cookies sit on the baking tray for 1 to 2 minutes once they are baked to your liking. It is important to let the cookies cool before storing them. It is a good idea to put the cookies in a sealed container at room temperature. This helps keep your cookies fresh for up to a week! Crisp cookies can also be stored in a looser-fitting container and some like to freeze their cookies to make them last longer.
In a large mixing bowl melt the chocolate and with the hand mixer beat in the butter and sugar.
Stir in the eggs, vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
Finally, fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder.
Cover the cookie dough with plastic wrap and let it rest in a cold place for about 2 hours or overnight.
Next, form the small cookies into balls and roll them into granulated sugar, and then into icing sugar.
Arrange the cookies in a baking tray and cook in an already heated oven at 350 F or 180 C degrees for about 10 minutes.
Let them cool and serve to enjoy.
