Itamae may have tugged on our heartstrings when it comes to Nikkei cuisine, but B-Side sealed the deal completely with its incredible sushi. Try the Her Loss Roll with torched salmon tartare, serrano, kani, cucumber, avocado, spicy mayo, and soy paper; the Motomami Roll with crispy white fish, sweet plantain, avocado, cream cheese and soy sauce; or The New Danger Roll with spicy tuna, scallion, avocado, yuzu tobiko, and sweet and spicy sauce. Also, try their cebiche bowls. And all their other bowls. Just try everything.

The omakase at Hiden will make your accountant cringe, but we promise you, the $300+ meal is worth every single splurgy penny. To get to Hiden, you’ll have to go through The Taco Stand, an assuming, casual taco joint with not a hint as to what awaits in the back room. Be sure to make reservations in advance as the eatery only has eight seats and while getting one isn’t exactly an easy feat, the effort is entirely deserving of the feast to come, and nowhere near as implicated as needing to fly fish in from Japan, which Hiden does.
Hiden is located at 313 NW 25th St, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website.
Hiyakawa may have just taken Japanese cuisine to levels never-before-achieved in Miami. You’ll be enjoying your meal in an intimate and impeccable atmosphere, where every single thing, including each bite you take, is perfectly curated and absolutely flawless. If you can, opt for a seat at the counter where you can watch the chefs perform their diligent magic and be prepared to let out an endless stream of “ooos” and “mmmms” as various fish practically evaporates on your tongue.
Hiyakawa is located at 2700 N Miami Ave #5, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website.
If typical omakase prices seem a bit out of reach, then Omakai is a solidly good, and much more casual, idea. With omakase menus ranging from $20 to $84, it’s as accessible as it is delightful, and you won’t need to wait weeks to get a reservation. They also have a vegan omakase experience, and a plethora of a la carte appetizers, sushi rolls, and nigiri that will leave your belly full and happy.
Omakai Sushi is located at 2107 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website.
While the book-length menu at Uchi might make it difficult to decide what to order, rest assured that it’s impossible to go wrong with any route you take. Whether you opt for omakase (which also comes in a vegetarian option) or any of the array of cool tastings, hot tastings, agemono, or yasaimono, you’ll be pleasantly rewarded. As for the sushi and sashimi in particular, expect some wildly unforgettable mouthfuls, which you can make even more delicious by adding the “make it fancy” option, 8g of kaluga hybrid caviar, to dishes or nigiri. Pro tip: Uchi can rack up a hefty bill, but if you go during their happy hour (every day from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) you’ll still get to savor quite a few favorites at a fraction of the cost.
Uchi is located at 252 NW 25th St, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website.
