Once the day winds down and you’ve had just about enough of the beach and the bustle of Ocean Drive it’s time to pop into one of the many hidden (and not so hidden) bars that Miami Beach has to offer. There’s something for everyone: award-winning craft cocktails, beer on tap, roaring live music, and dimly lit speakeasies.
Here are the top bars to check out when you find yourself in Miami Beach looking for a drink:
Broken Shaker is that one bar you always go back to when you want to keep thingschill and bubbly. Whether hanging out with friends or going on a laid-back date — this is the spot. Peak through the Freehand Boutique Hotel and Hostel and you’ll find a serene courtyard with a pool where the drinks keep pouring. There’s not much indoor seating but the outdoor pool and shaded tables keep the area fresh and lively.
Broken Shaker has lots of quirky and innovative cocktails to sip on. Case in point: the Coco Puffs Old Fashioned, made with Coco puffs-infused high west double rye, bourbon, and chocolate bitters. It’s the cocktail of your childhood dreams, if there ever was one. If you’re looking for bites to compliment your sips the shawarma fries with harissa ketchup are a no-brainer, as are the tacos with choices of carnitas, chicken tinga, or oyster mushrooms.
Broken Shaker is located at 2727 Indian Creek Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33140. For more information, visit their official website.
If Broken Shaker was chill and tropical pool-side vibes, best believe Lost Weekend is the complete opposite. The South Beach staple has everything you need to make it a weekend for the books. Vintage 80’s video games, pool tables, and even karaoke. This place is a downright hoot.
The drink of choice here is beer and lots of it. Craft and on tap. The food is above your average pub grub with the South Philly Cheese Steak becoming synonymous with the bar itself. There’s even a stellar Philly-style veggie cheese steak made with grilled mushrooms for the fellow vegetarians. Come one, come all.
Lost Weekend is located at 218 Española Way, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.
Yet another Miami Beach staple, we’re willing to bet our bottom dollar if you’re not at Lost Weekend on a Friday night, you’ll be at Monty’s. There’s a pool. There’s live music every weekend. Drinks that just won’t stop. Need we say more? If you want a truly unforgettable experience — go with the bar’s famous Pain Remover. A blend of gold rum, coconut cream, and tropical juices, this cocktail comes in three different pain-removing categories so go wild.
Perhaps our favorite part about Monty’s Sunset is that it also offers slappin’ good seafood. If you’re lucky enough to come here during stone crab season by all means get the platter. Just about anything from the raw bar is delish including the jumbo shrimp cocktail and the Florida-style peel & eat shrimp. Don’t be afraid to get a little dirty here folks, it’s oh-so worth it.
Monty’s is located at 300 Alton Rd, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.
Ah, Sweet Liberty. Old school dive bar meets new and chic craft cocktail bar. It’s neon, it’s happening, it’s popping. The multiple award-winning bar has such a grand list of craft drinks that you’re bound to become a regular. Some standouts include the Sweet Liberty signature pina colada spiked with Jamaican coffee (trust us on this one) and the spiced pineapple daiquiri.
Foodies will light up with glee after just one look at the menu with raw bar specialties, decadent appetizers worthy to match even the booziest of drinks, and sweet happy endings. If you’re ordering for the table make sure to get the cheesy, creamy, cauliflower nachos with added shrimp, pickled deviled eggs, and please oh please get the lobster mac & cheese.
Sweet Liberty is located at 237 20th St suite b, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.
Classy is the first word that comes to mind from the sight of Swizzle. This hidden speakeasy transports you straight into the roaring twenties — dim lighting, vintage banker’s lamps, leather seating, they’ve got it all. It’s a gem amongst the usual hustle and bustle of South Beach. The bar is deeply inspired by the 18th century when rum was all the rage and you best believe Swizzle has over 150 bottles to choose from.
Rum-based cocktails galore here with customer favorites like the classic Hurricane and a coffee-infused rum banana daiquiri. Many of the brands come from the Sunshine State itself so patrons can opt for the full-on Florida Rum Experience. And while the food here is definitely not the focus, a humble yet tasteful menu of wings, fries, and a classic American burger will still make sure you can keep up with the libations to come.
Swizzle Rum Bar & Drinkery is located at 1120 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.
