The Best New Restaurants in Miami [May 2022]

This month’s short and sweet list of new eateries will surely have you drooling over your next breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Expect to meet Miami’s newest food hall—Miami Beach’s third official food hall—a bar turned tavern, a local café with plans for expansion, and more. Below, you’ll find five new or upcoming restaurants to check out this month.

Alton Food Hall

Miami welcomes its latest food hall, Alton Food Hall, offering a variety of local vendors and a handful of national champions. The food hall, owned by Cloudkitchen, the ghost kitchen company of Uber founder Travis Kalanick, officially opened on April 30, with over 160 seats both indoor and outdoor, as well as a roster of 16 food and beverage vendors and a focal bar, named Airmail, providing a range of fast-casual food purveyors, counter-style dining options and beverages. Restaurants include Miami Beach’s The Poke Hale, local juice spot Jugo Boss, Golden Burgers, Dumpling King, Moonbowls (healthy Korean bowls), Mr. Tea’s House of Boba, and more.

Alton Food Hall is located at 955 Alton Road, Miami Beach, Florida 33139. For more information, visit their official website

Crudos Art House

MoonMat Hospitality is at it again with their newest opening of Crudos Art House. Their latest location, joining their Wynwood and Hallandale spots, is located in Coral Gables and will offer an Asian/Latin fusion menu, as well as many of the signature dishes found at their other outposts and a collection of handcrafted cocktails. Expect appetizers like a truffle langostinos casserole with grilled langostinos—the meat of the squat lobster—truffle corn casserole, crispy leeks, and scallions; cloud pork belly buns with pork belly, candy cotton, pickled cucumber, and crispy rice; and foie gras scallops, pan-seared scallops topped with foie gras and golden yuzu masago. Main courses include grilled octopus with grilled zucchini, crispy garlic, and Asian chimichurri, churrasco in Japanese marinade with grilled tomato, crispy leeks, and black garlic ponzu; and Chilean sea bass, ginger-sesame glazed and served with ponzu sauce.

Crudos Art Hospitality is located at 2415 Ponce de Leon, Coral Gables, FL 33134. For more information, visit their official website

Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse

Fogo de Chão lovers will be happy to learn that the internationally-beloved Brazilian staple has officially opened its second Miami outpost in Coral Gables. The new outpost is two stories tall and located in The Plaza Coral Gables, a newly developed hospitality and entertainment plaza near Miracle Mile. Fogo de Chão’s new location also features an expansive 280-seat dining room anchored by an open-air churrasco bar where guests can dine while watching gaucho chefs butcher, prepare and grill various cuts of meat over an open flame.

Fogo de Chão Brazillian Steakhouse is located at 2801 Ponce de Leon, Coral Gables, FL 33134. For more information, visit their official website

Pretty Swell

South of Fifth is getting a laid-back newcomer called Pretty Swell. The eatery, boasting casual surfer vibes, is open at the Life House hotel featuring healthy food and specialty coffee by day and coastal airs by night. Guests can expect a sustainable environment thanks to Pretty Swell’s zero-waste, plastic-free policy. The refined-approachable menu features fresh, plant-forward fare made with locally sourced products whenever possible.

Pretty Swell is located at 321 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website

The Gibson Room Cocktail Bar

Burger and beer joint The Mighty is trading its bar menu for upscale offerings at the restaurant’s new rendition. Taking over the former space will be what’s now dubbed The Gibson Room cocktail bar. Now owned by Ariete’s Michael Beltran, the bar-turned-tavern will feature a menu by chef Kris Huseby, formerly of Michael Schwartz’ Cypress Room. The menu will include highlights like uni popcorn, duck tacos, chicken liver mousse, oxtail ramen, and crispy onion pies. The beverage program, led by Ariete Hospitality Group, will feature drinks such as the hot ticket, tequila, Cholula, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon, served straight up.

The Gibson Room Cocktail Bar is located at 2224 Coral Way, Miami, FL 33145. For more information, visit their official website.
