Looking for deals on National Margarita Day? You won’t regret coming nice and early to Cubata on Calle Ocho. Step into the Spanish-Cuban tapas joint that’s setting the scene on fire with their ridiculously friendly happy hour specials. Picture this: soaking up the vibrant energy of Little Havana’s bustling Calle Ocho from a seat at one of their colorful tiled tables, with the pulse of live music in the air.
But wait, the best part is yet to come. Only on Thursdays does the Cubata happy hour last until closing. This means you can leisurely sip your half-off margaritas all the way through 2 a.m. while getting down to some Latin grooves. The restaurant serves four different margaritas: the classic with lime, the spicy—add jalapeno and tajin, and mango or passion fruit frozen margaritas. Salud!
The year has barely started, and our list is already filled with new and popping restaurant openings. Casa Ya’ax has captured our hearts from day one, and now we’re regulars. Embark on a tantalizing journey to Mexico at Chef Omar Montero’s newest culinary and cocktail sanctuary in Wynwood.
A sophisticated sibling to the beloved La Santa Taqueria, Casa Ya’ax is a vibrant celebration of Mexico’s rich flavors and regional cuisine, with the menu shining the spotlight on simplicity. Start the voyage off with the white corn hominy “hummus” and make your way onto the “maiz project,” where tlacoyos, sopes, and gorditas are prepared with the utmost finesse. We’re talking corn and red quinoa masa gorditas topped with rock shrimp and pork belly. Divine. It only gets better, though, because the grill menu is insane. The short ribs a los tres chiles, made with an ancho, guajillo, and chilaca pepper reduction, got us writing poetry after every meal.
Casa Ya’ax Miami is located at 51 NE 24th St., Ste. 101, Miami, FL 33137. For more information, please visit their official website.
Get ready to embark on a Mediterranean escape this Saturday within a mere 15-minute drive from Miami. That’s right, we’re heading to Key Biscayne, home of the renowned Costa Med Bistro. This seaside bistro has housed many a celebrity, and thankfully, the food really does live up to the hype. Snatch a seat on their outdoor dining terrace, where the Key Biscayne gem promises the perfect setting to savor the town’s gentle breeze and serene ambiance.
In our multiple years of patronage, we’ve yet to have a subpar meal. Everything on the menu is exquisite, from the fresh crudos and carpaccios to the chops and steaks straight off the grill. Not to mention, the bistro has a wine collection any self-respecting sommelier would be dying to explore. If it’s your first time here, you may want to start with the undeniable crowd-pleasers: the Greek-style grilled octopus, the Tuscan-style Angus tenderloin beef carpaccio, and the ravioli. Oh, the ravioli — a sweet and sour love affair between aromatic pear and creamy gorgonzola all served in a Marsala wine sauce and topped with caramelized fig.
Enter the Lobster Shack, a family-owned gem dishing out straight-up delicious coastal fare. Nestled just steps from the beach, this spot oozes nostalgia and seaside charm, making it the ultimate destination for classic New England eats in Miami. And, of course, they serve up a mean clam chowder.
If the weather’s looking in our favor this Sunday, we’ve got just the plan: grab our food to-go and head to the beach. Our go-to this time around is the Naked lobster roll served warm with butter or the Classic, chilled and lightly dressed. To each roll, you can add a serving of the raved-about New England clam chowder for just $3.95. Personally, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the bivalve.
