Monday, January 6: Comedy Night at Porterhouse

Instagram

What better way to enjoy the start of the new year than with a night filled with laughs? This Monday, January 6 you can find us over at our favorite new hotspot — Porterhouse on Collins Ave where every Monday from 9 p.m. the laughter doesn’t cease.

The best part about comedy night at Porterhouse is that the menu doesn’t match the good vibes, meaning you can enjoy delicious appetizers like crispy deep-fried calamari or classic beef tartare alongside the show. For bigger bites, the restaurant serves up incredible bison burgers, surf & turf fajitas, or hot buffalo chicken sandwiches on a brioche bun. Great food, big laughs, and good company—sounds like the best way to kick off the first week of the year to us.

Thursday, January 9: Dry January at TAMBO Miami

Sure it may be Tipsy Thursday, but let’s change the tradition up a bit for Dry January and enjoy some incredible mocktails by some of the city’s best mixologists. At TAMBO, the mocktails are crafted with premium zero-proof spirits, and the $12 creations offer all the sophistication and boldness of a craft cocktail, without the buzz. Imagine rich, velvety blends of maize and tarragon, zesty bursts of tamarind and pineapple, or the refreshing chill of frozen watermelon cubes infused with rosemary. For the adventurous, there’s even a decadent concoction featuring mole, nuts, Aztec chocolate, and a zero-proof whiskey alternative.

TAMBO’s creativity doesn’t stop at the drinks though, their Latin-fusion menu pairs perfectly with January’s mocktail program. Enjoy your mocktail alongside fresh ceviche or flaky empanadas, to name a few. Cheers!

TAMBO Miami is located at 2360 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.

Friday, January 10: National Oysters Rockefeller Day at CJ’s Crab Shack

Instagram

Let’s celebrate National Oysters Rockefeller Day at one of our favorite seafood joints in town — CJ’s Crab Shack. Oysters Rockefeller — buttery and herbaceous baked oysters — have been a staple of American cuisine for over a century. The original recipe was created at Antoine’s in New Orleans where oyster fans can still enjoy it till today. Us Miamians are in luck though, because CJ’s Crab Shack serves up a version just as good without the need to travel to Louisiana.

Oysters Rockefeller originated as a substitution for escargot when snails for the French delicacy were scarce, thus oysters were used instead. The sauce is indeed similar, consisting of butter, various herbs, and breadcrumbs. We recommend grabbing a seat out on the terrace and enjoying the ocean breeze while indulging in the iconic seafood dish.

Saturday, January 11: Dinner at El Turco

- -

As the sun sets and stomachs start to rumble, El Turco in Upper Buena Vista sets the ideal dinner vibe. Lights glistening amongst ancient oak trees and a setting adorned with colorful tiles puts diners in the perfect mood for the feast to come.

Start with the mezze — and plenty of it. From yogurt cacik (a relative of tzatziki) to sarma (grape leaves stuffed with spiced rice), your taste buds will be awaiting the dishes to come. We recommend sharing the mains as well, much like the mezze, with popular options including melt-in-your-mouth kavurma (slow-cooked beef over rice) and lahmacun (a thin Turkish “pizza” topped with minced meat and fresh aromatics). See you there!
