Wednesday, July 24: Lunch at El Turco

Join us at one of the best Turkish restaurants in the country as we sample the new menu item that was just released this month. El Turco is known for making nothing but the best authentic and traditional Turkish food and this is just that—introducing the zucchini and bell pepper dolma. This saucy and utterly mouthwatering dish comes stuffed with ground beef, rice, and aromatic spices. We can’t wait.

The dish pairs exceptionally well with a glass of full-bodied Sarafin Shiraz coming straight from Turkey, and we’re not ones to say no to a glass of vino with our lunch. The only thing that will elevate this meal to even grander heights would be dessert and thankfully El Turco knows its sweets. Don’t leave without a taste of the kunefe—a Turkish sweet cheese pastry consisting of cheese arranged between two layers of kadayif (shredded phyllo), cooked until golden, and soaked in a sweet syrup topped with pistachios. Warning: you will most likely become addicted.

Thursday, July 25: Sushi Making Class at Paperfish Sushi

Roll with us at Paperfish Sushi. Join the fun on Thursday, July 25, at their vibrant Española Way location for an exclusive sushi-making class. Guided by expert chefs, we’ll uncover the secrets of sushi making while sipping on a picante Wasabi Martini and sampling a variety of appetizers. This hands-on 2-hour session will have us crafting top-notch hamachi nigiri, classic California rolls, and the signature Paper Tuna roll.

More than just a cooking class, this experience immerses you in the rich cultural artistry of sushi. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned sushi lover, the lively atmosphere and explosive flavors make this event a must-attend. Seats are limited, and spots are filling up fast, so be sure to reserve in advance.

Friday, July 26: Dinner at Shimuja Ramen

This Friday find us slurping away at Shimuja Ramen, a beloved South Florida gem. Since opening its doors in Miami in 2018, Shimuja Ramen has quickly become a local favorite, earning the title of “Best Ramen Shop in Miami 2024” from The Miami New Times. Originally founded in Kagoshima City, Japan, in 2011, Shimuja Ramen brings its rich heritage to Miami through the culinary artistry of Chef and Owner Keiichi Maemura.

Chef Maemura’s meticulous 13-hour pork-bone broth forms the heart of an extensive ramen menu that includes delicious vegetarian options. Shimuja Ramen is known for its richly flavored broths and fresh ingredients. Their standout dish, the Kagoshima Special, is a delightful combination of smoked pork belly, mixed vegetables, scallions, naruto, fried burdock, a soft-boiled egg, and thick wavy noodles. Other favorites like the Satsuma Tonkotsu and Tokyo Shoyu offer a more classic approach to authentic flavors straight from Japan. Don’t miss out on the quintessential Florida ramen either — the Key Lime, prepared with chicken slices, key lime juice, lettuce, red onion, scallion, thin straight noodles, and half soft boiled egg.

Shimuja Ramen has several locations throughout South Florida. For more information, visit their official website.

Sunday, July 28: Brunch at Barsecco

Kickstart your weekend at Barsecco’s brunch, where the energy is electric and the vibes are unbeatable. Forget about early mornings—brunch runs from noon to 4 p.m., perfect for those of us who love to sleep in. Sip on endless mimosas while savoring a variety of global dishes at this trendy Brickell spot. You’ve got to try the shareable smoked salmon tower, piled high with Norwegian salmon, assorted bagels, and classic shmear. Other crowd-pleasers include the brunch burger crafted with two angus beef patties, American cheese, grilled onions, a fried egg, and secret sauce on a fluffy brioche bun accompanied by steak-cut french fries. And then there’s the saucy barbacoa chilaquiles served with guajillo salsa, shredded beef, sunny side eggs, radish, crema, avocado, and queso fresco. Divine.

Not a fan of mimosas? Check out the brunch cocktail menu, spotlighting the refreshing Sangria Rosa — St Germain, topped with Rosé Prosecco, grapefruit, raspberry vanilla reduction, and lemon juice. Groove to live DJ beats, relax on plush seats, and soak up the sun on the breezy patio. Perfect for a chill weekend with friends, Barsecco’s brunch is the place to be.
