There are still a few days left of Women’s History Month, which means there’s still time to catch the variety of specials happening around town. As far as we’re concerned, Wednesday is the perfect weekday to relax and splurge a little, so you’ll most likely find us on the MILA rooftop in Miami Beach.
MILA is one of the fine Miami establishments offering specials for Women’s month. Here, it’s the limited edition lavender olive oil cake, made with blueberry jam, jasmine tea, and pine nuts. The cake is delicate, aromatic, and an absolute delight to look at. The sweetest part? MILA is donating all of the proceeds from this desert to the Lotus House, a Miami-based organization committed to bettering the lives of homeless women, youth, and children. We recommend booking beforehand to ensure you get this treat before the month ends.
MILA is located at 1636 Meridian Avenue Rooftop, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more information, visit their official website.
On Friday, National Oysters on the Half Shell Day coincides with National Clam Day, and we know just the spot worthy of such celebration—the Lobster Shack. Sure, the namesake restaurant might be most known for its lobsters however, they don’t lack in the bivalve department either. Head to either the South Pointe or the Lincoln Road locations for a feast of oysters, clams, and crustaceans to supplement the marine spread.
For $2.50 each, the Shack offers a rotating selection of fresh East coast oysters on the half shell. Moving on to the clam department, there’s the luscious New England clam chowder, and the Lincoln Road location offers something called the Chowder Fries—crispy French fries covered in clam chowder, bacon, parmesan, and parsley. A must for all who have yet to try it.
April marks the start of National Florida Tomato month. Although Florida’s tomato season runs from October to June, April is the peak harvest month for the luscious and sweet tomatoes of the Sunshine State. And you bet we know exactly where to go for the juiciest bite! Toscana Divino has consistently been one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Miami because they take pride in sustainable practices and source a majority of their fresh produce from local South Florida farms, most importantly, free of pesticides, GMOs, and utilizing regenerative practices.
So what’s on the menu? We’re stopping by for dinner, and the first thing we’re ordering to celebrate the ripe fruit is the Nostra caprese, composed of local tomatoes, but of course, burrata foam, Sicilian pesto, and basil oil. For the antipasti, the octopus puttanesca, prepped with heirloom tomatoes, capers, and taggiasca olives. And for the primi patti we’re having a dish that showcases the star of the show mighty well — spaghetti 3 tomatoes. That’s fresh pasta served with a melange of vine and heirloom tomatoes and topped with just the right amount of aromatic basil. Simplicity and perfection.
If you ever find yourself on Miami’s iconic Espanola Way looking for a feast of the senses, don’t hesitate to stop by Paperfish Sushi. That is exactly what we’ll be doing this Sunday. The nikkei restaurant doesn’t fail to go above and beyond in all departments—amazing omakase, eye-catching cocktails, a bomb happy hour, a kids menu, and an authentic Japanese izakaya atmosphere to boot.
On Sundays, we can allow ourselves to get a little fancy and opt for the signature omakase, which serves two. Comprising the nikkei ceviche, tiradito apasionado, 8 pieces each of chef-choice nigiri and sashimi, and signature maki; for $120 it’s one of the best deals in the area. If you’re feeling a little daring like us, get the Wasabi Martini. It’s a total experience.
