Tuesday, July 29: Taste of SoMi at Kitchen 57
These are some of the very last days to catch the special prix fixe menu Kitchen 57 has rolled out in partnership with the city of Miami, that’s going away come August. The lunch menu, available for only $35, includes starters like ceasar salad, crispy Brussels sprouts in a lemon aioli, or tomato bisque with grilled cheese. Mains take center stage with options like grilled jerk chicken with yucca fries, shrimp al pastor tacos accompanied by a black bean salad, or filet pappardelle—seared filet tips cooked with peas and mushrooms in a red wine demi-glace sauce.
Dessert is not skipped either, with incredibly indulgent bread pudding or a key lime custard that does Miami proud. While the menu does not include drinks, we highly recommend trying one of their signature cocktails during your visit, as they sublimely round out the full Kitchen 57 experience.
Wednesday, July 30: Happy Hour Drinks and Bites at Old Lisbon
If you’re anywhere near Coral Way between 4 and 6 p.m. this Wednesday, by all means, pop into Old Lisbon and say hi. The happy hour at this fine Portuguese gem leans heavily into heart, heritage, and just the right amount of indulgence. The deal is as follows: Buy-one-get-one on beers, sangrias, and wines by the glass—an easy yes in our book.
The food, though, is where things really get good. Start with the chourico assado—a flaming hot Portuguese sausage. Or go for the sometimes-overlooked batatinhas, thinly sliced potatoes in a creamy garlic sauce that speaks to serious comfort. Seafood fans, take note: the lulas grelhadas ou fritas (calamari grilled and seared in garlic sauce) and mexilhões à D. Francisco (mussels in a traditional tomato consommé with Portuguese sausage) pack bold flavor into every bite.
Thursday, July 31: Avocado Caprese at Costa Med Bistro
If you can allow yourself an extra 30 minutes for your lunch break, we recommend taking the drive out to Key Biscayne and making a stop at the neighborhood’s favorite bistro, Costa Med Bistro, that is. National Avocado Day, of course, couldn’t be the only reason we’re making the drive. Profound fans of the bistro and everything it’s got to offer, from their fresh-caught seafood to steaks seared to perfection, we don’t give the journey a second thought.
To celebrate luscious avocados in high manner, we’re indubitably getting ourselves an order of the avocado caprese to start—layers of fresh buffalo mozzarella, vine-ripened juicy tomatoes, and avocado, of course, all dressed in a healthy drizzle of EVOO and adorned with the graceful basil and oregano. To make it a meal, pair it with the antrecote alla Milanese—breaded beef filet mignon medallions that come accompanied by a brisk arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and parmesan shavings.
Saturday, August 2: Dinner at the newly opened Daniel’s
Daniel’s Miami opened its doors last week in Coral Gables, and yes—it’s every bit the polished, power-dining experience we hoped for. The new steakhouse from the Gioia Hospitality Group (you’ll recognize them from the MICHELIN Guide–recommended Daniel’s in Fort Lauderdale) has taken over the old Fiola space on San Ignacio, transforming it into something sleek, sultry, and unmistakably high-touch.
On the menu, we’re looking forward to the decadent Australian Wagyu steak, a carved-to-order Wagyu prime rib from Texas, and a lobster fra diavolo that is promised to be their signature dish. For balance, expect local seafood, hand-rolled pastas, and Fiola throwbacks like the rigatoni alla vodka.
Daniel’s is located at 1500 San Ignacio Ave, Coral Gables, FL 33146. For more information, visit their official website.
