The Best Happy Hours in Wynwood

the best happy hours in wynwood

You’re in Wynwood, and the late afternoon is approaching. Slowly but surely, the sky starts turning cotton candy hues of pink and purple. You start to notice you’re thirsty for a drink. You look down at your watch – surely it’s happy hour! Where do you go?

From old-school dive bars to Cuban breweries and lively event halls, Wynwood knows a thing or two about providing the booziest specials in town, and we’ve got the list of the bestest:

Cerveceria La Tropical

It’s still early afternoon, and you’re right about done with work and ready for an ice-cold draught. Where do go? Step into the hip industrial space and lush garden of Cerveceria La Tropical.

The cerveceria holds its roots in 1888 Cuba, where the Blanco-Herrera family first established it, making it Cuba’s oldest and most prominent brewery. Fast forward to 2020 after over a century and much hard work, La Tropical finally opens its doors right in the vibrant center of Wynwood.

Not only does the brewery give Miamians a taste of true Cuban beer traditions — but it also does it at a great happy hour discount. Tuesday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m., sip on $6 draft beers and $7 tank-to-glass beers like the La Original and the Tropi Crystal.

Feel like getting a little more adventurous? For $8, the brewery crafts a plethora of beer-infused cocktails like the Havanito made with TropiFlaca Light Lager, Brugal 1888, lime juice, and mint simple syrup. No happy hour is complete without the snacks. There are plantain chips, BBQ pork tacos, and crispy mojo yuca fries, all priced at under $5.

Cerveceria La Tropical is located at 42 NE 25th St, Miami, FL 33137. For more information, visit their official website

Freehold Miami

NYC-native Freehold has plopped itself in the heart of Wynwood and has been taking its location seriously. It’s trendy, it’s live, it’s always happening. Step in during any day of the week, and you might get swept away by the energy of the place. If you do, venture in any time before 7 p.m. what you can always bet on are some bomb happy hour specials.

During happy hour, sip on $6 signature cocktails like the Agave Suave, made with Cayeya tequila, passion fruit, fresh ginger, lime, tajin, and cucumber.

Every Wednesday, patrons can enjoy late-night Tech Happy Hour and half-priced pizza and wine on Thursdays. Whether you’re chilling at one of the three bars, at the pizza parlor, or in the spacious courtyard, there’s always something to look forward to at this swanky joint.

Freehold Miami is located at 2219 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website

Gramps

Gramps is a true initiation into Wynwood bar culture, and if you haven’t sipped on a Rosemary’s Baby or gotten tipsy off a Penicillin, then what have you been waiting for? The bubbly bar is almost always packed, but you can manage to find a seat in the open courtyard or squeeze into the more intimate indoor space.

Happy hour here runs on weekdays from 6 to 8 p.m., meaning you don’t have to sneak out early from work to get your discount beer. All drinks are half off during happy hour and usually run at about $6-7 each without skimping on the booze.

If you get hungry while drinking, just pop into Pizza Tropical tucked in the back of the establishment. Grams hosts a superfluity of events daily, from drag shows to open mics, DJ sets, and theatrical performances, most of which start at about 8-9 p.m., so you may want to check the scheduling before planning your next night out.

Gramps is located at 176 NW 24th St, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website

Sylvester

Sylvester got all the vibes. Styled as an old Florida dive bar, upon entering the space, you’ll be greeted by dim chandeliers, velvet sofas, old-school games, and a pool table.

Grab a seat along the extended bar like a true oldtimer or plop yourself onto abuela’s furniture, which will ensure you’ll never want to leave. Coming from the same dream team behind Beaker and Gray, you already know this is the place to be.

Rush Hour, the bar’s own version of happy hour, runs Tuesday to Saturday from opening till 8 p.m. and includes $5 beers, $6 wine, and $8 craft cocktails like the Sippin Through Traffic made with Sipsmith gin, basil, lemon, and tonic.

This place is all drinks, folks, so we recommend grabbing an early dinner, stopping by for happy hour, and preparing to dance to some groovy sounds till the wee hours.

The Sylvester is located at 3456 N Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website

Veza Sur Brewing Co.

Last but not least on the list is Veza Sur Brewing Co. While Veza Sur probably needs no introduction, it is one of the more low-key bars a bit away from the bustle of Wynwood. Sure, it still gets packed on most days, but with its big industrial-style bar room, high ceilings, and extensive courtyard, you can still find your nook for a leisurely happy hour after work.

So what’s the dealio here? Craft beers and micheladas all in a lively Latin-inspired setting, that’s one. Happy hour runs Tuesday to Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and encompasses $5 beers (all varieties included) and 50% off all wine.

Tuesdays are Local’s Night, and all beer is 50% off till closing. Then on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m., there’s $20 bottomless micheladas. Say what?! To go with all the beer, you might want to split a few snacks with the homies.

The menu is conveniently divided into small, medium, and large categories depending on how hungry you are. We recommend going with the canchita, Peruvian corn (small), chi fa shrimp, aka popcorn shrimp (medium), and lomo saltado, tenderloin with rice, and French fries (large).

Veza Sur Brewing Co. is located at 55 NW 25th St, Miami, FL 33127. For more information, visit their official website
