Osaka

Nikkei | Brickell
Osaka is a product of two surf-loving friends, Diego De La Puente and Diego Herrera. After globe-trotting and savoring different world cuisines, the chef duo opened their first Osaka in Peru. The unordinary restaurant is a homage to Japanese immigrants’ diverse history in Peru, using fresh and local ingredients with traditional Japanese techniques. Fast forward almost 20 years, the nine well-established restaurants around South America consistently make Best 50 Restaurant lists around the world. It is no wonder Osaka Nikkei Miami instantly became a sensation with local foodies and celebrities alike. The Miami branch is crafted by award-winning chefs, Rogger Quispe and Juan Urrutia. The chefs skillfully added to traditional Osaka dishes creating new twists for the Miami crowd. The ceviche sampler gives diners a chance to relish fresh-caught seafood with tangy citrus flavors and piquant Peruvian peppers. Visitors can try the signature omakase course and a variety of fresh sashimi. For a more laid-back evening, go with some of the izakaya sharing plates, like the Soft Shell Crab Jalea: seasoned with a rocoto sesame aioli and leche de tigre. Plus, a tableside prepared Niku Tartar — prime beef and miso cured foie in a panca-yakiniku sauce. For a fulfilling dessert, go with the Miso Toffee Crumble, or as a refreshing alternative, the Lima Kakigori. The atmosphere at the acclaimed restaurant remains warm and intimate, even with the strict social distancing regulations. The setting is soothing and zen with tasteful Peruvian accents and a delectable fish bar. Speaking of bars, a visit to Osaka is not complete without a tasting of the exceptionally crafted Pisco-based cocktails infused with soul-melting Japanese aromatics.  1300 Brickell Bay Dr, Miami, FL; (786) 627-4800, osakanikkei.com Tues-Sat 5 -11 p.m.; Sun 12 -3 p.m. and 5 -10 p.m.
